Narrative Assessment - Literacy - 18 June 2015

Learner: Amy              Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg              Date: 18 June 2015
Learning Area: Literacy - Reading
Learning Observed
Today Amy read “In the Garden”. We turned to the first page. Amy pointed to the words and read “This is the insect”. She had looked at the picture for clues. I corrected her with “This is a beetle”. Amy was able to read the next pages, looking at the picture for clues, but again said “the” instead of “a”.
Evidence of learning

Amy is pointing to the words as she reads. I wonder if she does this at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Amy scored 2/24 on the Duncan Basic Word Assessment. She is developing her Capabilities in reading. Amy is able to work out where to place her finger when reading (Thinking). She is starting to read the texts independently (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).
Next Learning Steps
  • More teaching on basic sight words
  • Continue to encourage finger pointing to the words
  • Share learning with home
